John, Mike, Geoff, and me
Hey guys,
For those of you who did engl 477 and 479 (i think):
On Monday I was a huge geek and went to the John Berger festival opening event!
It was actually really good. Admittedly, he is promoting his new book, but they had him, Michael Ondaatje, Geoff Dyer, and a few others, doing readings, and generally talking. Dyer was really good: he talked about Jackson Pollock's life and death, and was hilarious. The discussion during the second part was very interesting, though it reminded me too much of lectures!
I'm considering emailing Rochelle: just to make her jealous.
take it easy guys,
Daf

Ah, just to be a philistine: who's John Berger? [Cringes as rotten fruit (mostly of the tomato variety) flies toward him.] [Incidentally, did people just keep some of their fruit so it'd rot and they could throw it @ shitty performers? Seems like a waste, especially when you're a French peasant. And wouldn't they have had to check that kind of thing @ the door, and be made to buy it inside? 'No self-brought rotten fruit, people; you have to buy your rotting fruit inside @ ridiculously inflated prices. Yes, yes, I know you're poor peasants, but do you want to shame someone off the stage properly, or not?' But I digress.] I can't be assed googling him so if you wouldn't mind a brief explanation...
ppppfff...
You haven't heard of JB?
He's most famous for his controversial art history/ critical theory writing in the 70s. Male gaze and stuff like that. He had tv shows and so on -sort of changed art history. He's also written a lot and won the Booker prize for 'G' (famous for being in the engl477 reading list).
He's not as fashionable as he was, so no real need to google him.
If I was a french peasent, I would smuggle rotten apples or something to throw at the minstral. Tomatoes weren't grown there til about the 17th/18th Century. Ha!
